Announcements / 2010 Bob Beshore Award
2010 Bob Beshore Award
Presented at the League's June 6th Annual Picnic
Background This year makes the 8th year we have presented this award. Previous winners of this award have been Jake Thumma, Brian Mellott, Carson Blessing, Colin King, Ezra Frick, Austin Shires, Andrew Ford and Philip Deppen. The Award is called the "Bob Beshore Sportsmanship Award." For those of you who knew Bob Beshore you can appreciate the naming of this award in his memory. Bob loved good sportsmanship and went out of his way to acknowledge players demonstrating good sportsmanship. This award is presented to a 12-year-old in the Midget program and is selected by all Midget Coaches.
The inscription on the plaque reads:
“In recognition of the 12-year-old player in New Cumberland Baseball who maintains a positive attitude and exhibits a spirit of fair play no matter the outcome of the game.”
This Year's Award
This year we had several well deserving 12-year-olds and the voting was very difficult. This year’s recipient of the 2010 Bob Beshore Sportsmanship Award is Joseph Binder. Joseph Binder is a 12 year old student who will be a seventh grader this fall at St. Theresa School in New Cumberland. Binder has played for New Cumberland Youth Baseball for seven years. He played three years for the Midget Tigers and previously at the Pony and Tee Ball levels. His coaches over the years have included Ernie Binder, John Mattos, Matt Zappe and Joe Gallucci. A Chicago White Sox fan, he is the son of Ernie and Angela Binder and has a younger sister, Elizabeth.
