Announcements / 2009 Bob Beshore Award
2009 Bob Beshore Award
Presented at the League's June 7th Annual Picnic
Background This year makes the 7th year we have presented this award. Previous winners of this award have been Jake Thumma, Brian Mellott, Carson Blessing, Colin King, Ezra Frick, Austin Shires and Andrew Ford. The Award is called the "Bob Beshore Sportsmanship Award." For those of you who knew Bob Beshore you can appreciate the naming of this award in his memory. Bob loved good sportsmanship and went out of his way to acknowledge players demonstrating good sportsmanship. This award is presented to a 12-year-old in the Midget program and is selected by all Midget Coaches.
The inscription on the plaque reads:
“In recognition of the 12-year-old player in New Cumberland Baseball who maintains a positive attitude and exhibits a spirit of fair play no matter the outcome of the game.”
This Year's Award
This year we had several well deserving 12-year-olds and the voting was very difficult.
This year’s recipient began his playing career in 2003 on the T-Ball Braves and his coach was Rob Kline. He played for Coach Kline for two seasons. In 2005 he moved to the Pony league and played on the Pony White Sox with Coach Jeff Wakefield. In 2006 he played on the Pony Marlins for Coach Ernie Binder. For the past three years, this player has been a member of the Midget Giants and has been coached by Ritchie LaFaver.
It is my pleasure to announce the 2009 Bob Beshore Sportsmanship Award winner...
Philip Deppen
Philip is the son of John and Denise Deppen. Congratulations Philip. Bob Beshore would be well pleased with your selection.
