Announcements / NCYBA is looking to learn more about its history

Don Winter spoke to League President Doug Eakin recently and told him a little of the league's early history in a phone conversation on April 4, 2007

Here are a few highlights -

“I played on one of the first baseball teams in New Cumberland in 1948”,  Don said.

“There were two teams - a Blue and Gold - and we played our games in the center field of what is now called Memorial Field. "

"There were no backstops just bare spots for a field,”  Don continued.

The teams were Midget teams consisting of 8 -12 year olds,  but mostly 11 and 12 year olds according to Don.

Years later as an adult, Don coached Pony, Midget and Teener teams in New Cumberland.

Now some 59 years later New Cumberland Baseball is still going strong.

In 2007 NCYBA will field 10 T-ball teams, 7 Midget teams and 7 T-ball Teams.

New Cumberland has combined its Teener teams with West Shore Teeners for the past three seasons and in 2007 there are a total of 6 Teener teams.

The NCYBA has 317 ball players eager to take the field for the Spring 2007 season!
